This has been in high demand on all forms of my social media, people wondering what I have in my gym bag.

So here it is:

Nutrition for Post-Workout- As they gym i work and train at, is around a 50 minute drive away from my house, I always make sure I have something to eat after the workout, normally something high in protein and carbs, and also nutritionally dense. After your workout, your body is craving nutrients to replace what you just depleted. Providing your body with a small meal is exactly what you need to start recovering. This should be an item that is high in protein and carbohydrates, and also contains some sort of fat. Protein will aid in the recovery process and help with alleviating the soreness associated with a tough workout. Adding carbohydrates to your post workout will help to replace your glycogen levels that have been depleted through your workout and allow you to feel more aware and wake. This type of snack I normally have is a protein shake with oats in.

Liquid chalk- I get my chalk from My protein, as its cheap and comes in a handy small bottle. This is perfect for when I’m going heavy on deadlifts and bench.

Water Bottle- I always make sure I have a water bottle, as I drink a lot of water when working out, as I sweat a lot and am replace the loss in water, to stay hydrated. Make sure you don’t forget to include your water bottle in your gym bag! It is extremely important to keep yourself hydrated while working out. Dehydration can lead to a number of health issues and even some temporary ailments like headaches/migraines. The last thing you want is your workout to lead to something as debilitating as a migraine. Water will help to alleviate your chances of a post-workout headache. As you sweat, you need to be taking in fluids to replace this; water being the number one choice.

Trainers- It is essential to have form-fitting shoes that are your correct size and allow your foot to move in a natural motion. Foot pain can also be attributed to incorrect arch support within your shoes. Inserting a new pair of insoles can create the level of comfort that you may need. Shoes made by Nike, Adidas, New Balance, and Asics are all good options depending on what you are looking for.

Change of clothes- I’m a personal trainer so I can work out in what I wear in the day, as its perfect allowing my body to move freely and execute my exercises correctly. Although I do bring other set of clothes to change into after my workout as my gym has no air-con!!!!! (Yes its horrible in the summer). But obviously if you have a job in construction, or an office you wont be wearing the right clothes to work out in, please don’t be that guy who shows up in a pair of jeans or a dress shirt. So I suggest packing items like a pair of gym shorts that are fairly loose-fitting around the legs for men. For women, this can be anything from gym shorts, tights, or yoga pants. Be sure that you also include a comfortable t-shirt, tank top, or long sleeve for your workout.

There are other things I sometimes inculde in my gym bag such as, squat shoes, and a weightlifting belt.

Thank you for reading.
